Datuk Manila Tomb

Datuk Manila was a Muslim scholar from Manila, Philippines, who migrated to Melaka when the Spaniards conquered his country. Before the arrival of the Spaniards, Muslims from the Borneo archipelago and Sulu lived in the Philippines. It was believed tat Datuk Manila together with many other Ulama’ fled when the Spanish began persecuting and oppressing the Muslims. The Muslin scholar taught Islam and the virtues of the religion to the people of Melaka during the Dutch rule. His kind-heartedness and good nature put him in good stead with the local mocumminity who regarded him as a saint and upon his death they erected this mausoleum in his memory. The British during their occupation of Melaka and people of other religion also regarded his grave as sacred site. This extra long grave denotes that it belongs to a holy man.
